Steam turbines for mechanical drive (SIEMENS ENERGY)
Description

Siemens Energy, drawing on the technological legacy of Dresser-Rand, maintains a prominent position in turbomachinery for the process industry and power generation. Its offering combines international experience, high mechanical reliability and integration capability, providing equipment ready for applications where energy recovery and operational continuity are strategic priorities.

Siemens Energy’s mechanical drive steam turbines are designed to directly drive pumps, compressors, fans and other rotating equipment in installations where operational continuity and efficient use of available steam are priorities.

The Dresser-Rand heritage covers a wide range of power outputs and configurations with or without gearbox, with designs aligned with API 611 and API 612. Their key technical advantage lies in converting available steam into reliable mechanical work, reinforcing the operational resilience of the asset and helping to reduce electrical dependence without sacrificing a robust solution for continuous service.

Their natural market is in refining, petrochemical, cogeneration, biomass, energy and other industries with continuous demand for mechanical drive or steam-based power generation. Their deployment in these sectors reflects the equipment’s ability to maintain operational stability and service continuity under demanding process conditions.

Choosing Siemens Energy means relying on engineering with an extensive installed base and a comprehensive vision of the turbomachinery train.

Other Features

An ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) is a thermodynamic cycle similar to the conventional Rankine cycle, but using an organic working fluid with a low boiling point instead of water. This allows it to utilise low- to medium-temperature heat sources — such as industrial waste heat, exhaust gases or geothermal resources — and convert them into electricity where a conventional steam turbine would be less efficient. In this context, drawing on its extensive turbomachinery expertise, Siemens Energy offers ORC solutions from 1 MW designed to recover waste heat and transform it into useful energy, improving installation efficiency, reducing emissions and extending the possibilities of thermal recovery beyond traditional steam turbines.
