The processing of hot and concentrated sulfuric acid presents significant challenges due to the extreme corrosion, erosion, and wear of materials.
To address this, our representative Lewis® Pumps has developed highly corrosion-resistant equipment and materials, such as their range of pumps, valves, and alloys, which have proven their effectiveness in sulfuric acid applications for over a century.
The LEWMET® alloy, specifically developed for these applications, stands out for its optimal resistance to corrosion, wear, and abrasion.
Hardened to 500 Brinell, it can operate in 98% sulfuric acid at temperatures up to 140°C as a general rule and even in concentrations of 99.5% and 240°C, withstanding high speeds and abrasives.
This makes it ideal for critical components such as impellers, wear rings, and shaft sleeves in centrifugal pumps that must maintain dimensional integrity in aggressive environments.
The pumps have a vertical design that prevents the acid from contacting external parts, increasing operational safety against potential leaks, a common problem in horizontal designs from other manufacturers.
Additionally, valves made with LEWMET® are resistant to turbulence, abrasion, and corrosion, giving them a prolonged service life and consistent flow control.
Lewis® pumps and valves ensure superior performance in demanding sulfuric acid applications.
